Zagreb, June 14, 2007 – the president of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia, Mufti Šefko Omerbašić handed over the Halal certificate for sugar to Marinko Zadro, the president of the Supervising Board of Viro sugar factory. The procedure of certification was performed by the Agency for Halal quality certification with headquarters in Tuzla.
This certificate proves that production processes and products of the Viro sugar factory are in accordance with the food standards of the persons belonging to Islamic religion, and it implies a serious of procedures in the production process and product characteristics conforming to Islamic regulations.
«The Halal certificate is another proof of the quality of Virovitica sugar and it will enable us to place our products to the market with the sign Halal and with the trademark for Halal quality. Obtaining the Halal certificate is in accordance to our intention to enter the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina which registered a constant increase of demand for Halal products, and it will reflect positively to export into European Union countries in which more members of Islamic religion live. Us having the Halal certificate makes it a lot easier to our partners, such as Kraš, Podravka and Vindija, to obtain it too, because their products can be certified only if the raw materials are certified» - said Marinko Zadro, president of Viro’s Supervising Board.
The word Halal is accepted in the world as an expression for the norm which implies allowed food, drinks and cosmetics with no addition of pork meat, fat or any other additive which contains those ingredients, and with no alcohol or any other opiate. The Halal certificate is founded on the principles of Sharia, and the regulations are visible clearly in Koran based on which the Halal norm was developed.
